Could Microsoft be as good as apple if...?

I know that apple has good things going for them. And they are having no trouble getting their products working.

But say Microsoft were to take the same approach as Apple...and not allow third party vendors, hardware and software onto their platform. If they took a handful of products and put their os onto ONLY that machine. No building your own, no putting Toshiba and HP on the case, but make it themselves. You think they would have less problems? I mean, the only reason that Apple is doing so well, is because there is no room for custom parts. You just can't. While Apple has to worry about a maybe 300 pieces of hardware, MS has to worry about i think 72,000... maybe thats way compatibility is screwing MS. I just don't understand how they can compare eachother when Apple won't let consumers buy their own video card and processor and not pay the overpriced crap that they provide. I'm not trying to prove anything. I just want to understand why apple is better. No just, it doesnt crash.

because people are easily persuaded.

For example, (this is real), 40 people were asked if they believed people went to the moon. only about 3 or 4 said no.

Then they watched a video (conspiracy theory: did man really land on the moon?) and after that, over 90% believed that the moon landings were fake, without even seeing the other side.
