Use the Insert %26gt;%26gt; Symbols option for common equation symbols.



Exponents can be written by using a super-script format, available in the Format%26gt;%26gt;Font menu.



Highlight the exponent part of the equation, select Format%26gt;%26gt;Font.



Click the "Superscript" checkbox towards the bottom.
