Microsoft Word isn't working?

EVERYTIME i go on microsoft word (even if it's a piece of work that's been saved), it doesn't work and i don't understand why. It keeps saying that the program is not responding and i press end now and it says you chose to end the nonresponsive program and i click don't send. Does anyone know wat's wrong and how i can fix it?

Sounds like your Normal.dot (or Normal.dotx, with Word Vista (2007)) may be corrupt. Try this:

1.Close all copies of MS Word.

2.In Windows Explorer (My Computer) go to the directory

c:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.

(Word Vista may use a different directory.)

3.The Normal.dot template should be in this directory. Change its name to Normal.dot.bak. (So if this doesn鈥檛 work, you can change it back.) If there is a file ~$Normal.dot (note the funny characters at the front), delete it.

4.Try Word again. It should find Normal.dot missing, recreate it, and, hopefully, give you back your functionality.

Good luck.

reinstall word.

or use wordpad instead.

Next time choose the "send" for the unresponsive. Sometimes Microsoft will generate a report for that particular problem. If so, follow their advice.

My guess is that some of the WORD files have been corrupted and the program needs to be reinstalled.

You might do an error check for XP. That's a long shot possibility. My Computer, right click Disk C and choose "Properties." Go to error checking and click. You will have to restart the computer for the check to run. Takes a half-hour or so.
